SAMVEDNA: Centre for Neuropsychological Rehabilitation and Mental Well-being is devoted to provide mental health care and neuropsychological rehabilitation to patients suffering with different types of brain insults.
Mental disorders are generally defined by a combination of how a person feels, thinks, perceives or acts. This may be associated with particular regions or functions of the brain or rest of the nervous system, often in a social context.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over a third of people in most countries report problems at some time in their life which meet criteria for diagnosis of one or more of the common types of mental disorder with various types of mental illness and mental health problems, such as social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, addiction to drugs and alcohol, and personality disorders.
Mental illness and psychological disorders have good treatment options with counseling, psychotherapy and if needed, medications.
Painful feelings such as anxiety, anger, depression, low self-esteem, and tension are a normal part of being human and can affect anyone. Sometimes these feelings are temporary and can be eased by rest, relaxation, exercise, good nutrition, and support of trusted friends. At other times, stressors, relationships, or past family experiences cannot be managed so easily and become overwhelming. When this happens, and a person finds it hard to function, he/she may need professional help.
We use effective brief treatment approach, where duration of therapy is usually six to twelve sessions with the goal to stabilize the person by strengthening his/her coping resources and to assist him/her in returning to the level of functioning required to carry out his/her work.
Exceptions to a brief treatment approach may be made on a case by case basis, and may include follow-up appointments on an indefinite basis. Neuropsychological rehabilitation and Group therapy is also an exception to a brief treatment approach.
